What are the main magnetic core materials?

2021-08-28

In daily work, study and life, we generally divide magnetic components into transformers and inductors. These two types of functional components must use magnetic cores on a large scale. The role of the transformer is isolation and voltage conversion, and its core is energy. Transfer; the role of inductance is resonance, filtering, and anti-electromagnetic interference, and the core is energy storage. As an indispensable basic electronic component in electronic circuits, inductance accounts for about 10% to 15% of the total amount of electronic components.

According to statistics, the weight of magnetic components is generally 30%-40% of the total weight of the converter, and the volume accounts for 20%-30% of the total volume. We can see that the magnetic components account for the same amount in the total volume and weight of the whole machine. The ratio of the material performance to a large extent affects the performance of electronic components. This shows that magnetic components are indispensable in electronic devices. How to reduce material loss, volume and weight has always been a new requirement for the development of magnetic materials in the power electronics industry in the new era. The core manufacturer Platinum Branch will first understand which magnetic materials are mainly used in transformers and inductors together with you.

Transformer magnetic materials generally include:

1. Iron powder core

The commonly used iron powder core is composed of carbon-based ferromagnetic powder and resin carbon-based ferromagnetic powder, and the price is the lowest among all kinds of metal powder cores.

2. Permalloy powder core

There are mainly molybdenum permalloy powder cores (MPP) and high magnetic flux powder cores (High Flux).

3. Kool Mμ Cores

The sendust core is composed of 9% Al, 5% Si, and 85% Fe powder. It is mainly used to replace iron powder cores, with 80% lower loss than iron powder cores and high cost performance.

Magnetic core and inductance

The magnetic materials used in inductors generally include:

1. Magnetic powder core.

Magnetic powder core is a kind of soft magnetic material made by mixing ferromagnetic powder and insulating medium. It can be used in different frequency ranges, operating temperatures and magnetic flux densities according to different materials.

2. Sendust core.

Sendust cores can provide good fault tolerance if they are designed in a controlled drop curve range, especially at high power. And when the temperature changes, its magnetic capacity can also be maintained in a relatively stable range.

3. Ferrite core.

Ferrite core is a high-frequency magnetic material (the principle is the same as that of silicon steel sheet, but used in high-frequency environments), which is mainly used in coils and transformers of various electronic equipment.

4. Manganese-zinc ferrite core.

Manganese-zinc ferrite has the characteristics of high magnetic permeability and high magnetic flux density, and has low loss characteristics at frequencies below 1MHz.

5. Nickel-zinc ferrite core.

Nickel-zinc ferrite has the characteristics of extremely high resistivity, low permeability of less than a few hundred, and low loss at frequencies higher than 1MHz.
